Knives Included

This Ginsu knife set includes various types of knives, covering most cutting needs.
  1.  The 8-inch chef’s knife, also called the French knife, has a very wide, long and thick blade and a large handle for a safe grip. It is generally used for basic cuts of fruits and vegetables, but it works perfectly on meats and dairy as well. This makes the chef’s knife one of the most versatile and important items in this collection. Whether you need to dice, slice or mince something, this tool provides very good results.
  2.  The 8-inch bread Ginsu knife has a classic serrated edge and a long blade, being designed for cutting any type of bread. Also, you can use it for slicing cakes without squashing or tearing them.
  3.  The 8-inch slicer is created especially for slicing large pieces of meat, so it can be successfully used as a prime rib knife or for carving poultry and game. Just as effective and versatile as the other good knives in this set, the slicer has a pliable and thin blade, with little air pockets that ensure effortless slicing.
  4.  The 5-inch boning knife has a thinner and curvier blade compared to the previous Ginsu knives. Although less rough than the chef’s knife, this one is sturdy enough to cut various types of meats, such as beef or poultry.
  5.  The six 4-1/2-inch steak knives included in this package are used for slicing steaks and chops, but they’re also suitable for trimming and dicing.
  6.  The 4-1/2-inch utility Ginsu knife is certainly an all-purpose cutting tool, as it has a rigid blade, shaped quite similar to the chef’s knife, but a little narrower. Due to its shape, this item is perfect for cutting, peeling and slicing fruits or vegetables as well as for carving poultry.
  7.  Lastly, the 3-1/2-inch paring knife is designed for peeling and trimming small vegetables and fruits. Additionally it will do a great job when used for garnishing, paring and coring as well.

The Quality of the Blades

Like all pieces in the Ginsu Lotta Series, these knives have Japanese stainless steel blades, serrated on both sides for clean and smooth cuts. The material is known to be very durable, rust-, stain- and corrosion-resistant. Each knife has a full-tang blade for increased balance and safety while using.
Japanese stainless steel is actually a material obtained by forging high-carbon steel and soft iron together. The steel used in this Ginsu knife set contains 13% chromium, this element being essential for preventing rust and for hardening the material. Still, exceeding this percentage and adding more chromium into steel may add some softness to the final material, meaning that the resulted steel can’t be tempered as hard. This is why Japanese stainless steel keeps the chromium percent as close to 13% as possible.

The Handles

The handles are also made of the same stainless steel as the blades, but with a satin finish, therefore they’re not only very strong but also very durable. Their curved, ergonomic shape provides a friendly hold, fitting smoothly into the hand. Unlike resin or plastic handles, these have the advantage of being dishwasher safe just like the blades, therefore you won’t have to waste your time washing these items after you’ve finished using them.

Extra Accessories

Just like other knife sets from Ginsu, this one comes with two accessories – a storage block and kitchen shears.
The sturdy, black storage block is made of hardwood and it’s very useful for keeping all the knives well organized and ready to use. The individual slots protect the blades and prevent them from getting dull, enhancing the lifespan of the cutting tools.
Measuring 8-1/2 by 6 inches, the storage component fits nicely onto any kitchen counter. Not to mention that it comes in two different models, one with vertical slots (the deep block) and one with horizontal slots (the shallow block).
As for the shears delivered with this Ginsu knife set, it is surely a helpful item for any cook as it can be used not only for cutting baking paper or plastic wrap, but also for slicing small fruits and vegetables or even thin pieces of meat.

Maintenance Specifications

According to their manufacturer, these Ginsu knives never require sharpening, thanks to the material they’re made of. Still, improper use of these or any good knives may cause the blades to get blunt, so it’s really up to you to have them working perfectly for a longer time.
In what concerns the cleaning procedure, all the pieces in this set are dishwasher safe, therefore you can put them into the dishwasher once you finish cooking and get back to your other activities.
